Prior to his arrest, Sherman’s wife revealed in a call to 911 that he had threatened to kill himself and sent text messages to others saying he was going to hang himself.
The NFL free agent acknowledged that he has been suffering from mental health issues over the past few months and vowed to get help. Sherman was officially hit with five criminal charges earlier in the day.
“I behaved in a manner I am not proud of,” Sherman said on Friday, via TMZ Sports. “I have been dealing with some personal challenges over the last several months, but that is not an excuse for how I acted. The importance of mental and emotional health is extremely real and I vow to get the help I need. I appreciate all of the people who have reached out in support of me and my family, including our community here in Seattle.
