As details surrounding Richard Sherman’s arrest early Wednesday morning continue to surface, they are becoming more troubling.
According to 911 audio of a call from Richard Sherman’s wife, Ashley Moss, the 33-year-old NFL free agent was “drunk and belligerent” and threatened to kill himself.
The audio was obtained by KIRO 97.3 FM in Seattle.
“I need officers here now,” Moss told the 911 operator. “He’s being aggressive, he’s sending text messages… he’s threatening to kill himself. He sent text messages to people saying he’s going to hang himself.
“If the police show up, please don’t shoot is what I’m asking… “
Moss later released a statement on Sherman’s arrest saying that no one was hurt during the incident.
Sherman was arrested for “Burglary Domestic Violence,” a felony charge in the state of Washington, and had bail denied. Sherman remains behind bars at King County Correctional Facility in Seattle and few details have been released. What we do know is that Sherman was taken down by a police K9 after being combative with responding officers and he is also being investigated for a potential DUI hit-and-run that took place prior to the incident that led to his arrest.
Sherman will remain behind bars until a scheduled hearing on Thursday.
The NFLPA released a statement on Sherman’s arrest.
“We were made aware of an arrest last night of one of our player leaders for an alleged domestic violence incident and have activated our domestic violence crisis protocol for the protection and support of everyone involved,” the statement read. “We will continue to monitor events closely as more facts are made available to us.”
