The biggest troll in Major League Baseball is at it again and if you’ve followed Joey Votto over the years you know a story like this is 100% true. His track record of messing with his opponent’s fans speaks itself, so when I come across this tidbit from an interview with The Athletic, of course I believe it.
You might remember Votto’s monster 2010 season when he edged out prime Albert Pujols in the MVP with a cool .324/37 HR/113 RBI line for the season. With the Cardinals being in the Reds division, naturally Votto is going to bring this up whenever he’s town for a series. And according to him, he’s had multiple Uber drivers that he’s reminded about that 2010 MVP.
From The Athletic:
I’m very aware of that. I’ve told many a St. Louis Uber driver that. They ask me who I am, they say, “You play baseball?”
I say, “Yes.”
They say, “Wow, what team?”
I say, “Cincinnati.”
They say, “Oh, where’s that?”
I say, “Oh, it’s in Ohio.”
They’ll say, “OK.”
I say, “Do you know Albert Pujols?”
“Oh yes, of course.”
I’ll say, “Well, I beat him for the Most Valuable Player. He came in second to me.”
It’s always nice to get a little personality from our baseball players every now and then. Maybe one day the MLB will promote this kind of stuff.
