Bill Belichick’s tenure with the New England Patriots has come to an end.
On Thursday, January 11, reports surfaced that Belichick and the Patriots are set to part ways after 24 seasons together.
During Belichick’s run in New England, the Patriots won a record-tying six Super Bowl titles. Belichick holds the NFL record for most Super Bowl wins as a head coach (6) and most Super Bowl rings overall (8).
ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Mike Reiss were the first to report the news.

Belichick’s career record as a head coach is 333-177.
Belichick is also the NFL record holder for most playoff wins as a head coach (31), most playoff appearances as a head coach (19 tied), and most divisional championships as a head coach (17).
Whether Belichick has a desire to continue his coaching career remains to be seen, but he is just 15 wins shy of breaking Don Shula’s NFL record of 347 wins as a head coach.
As for the Patriots, it is believed that inside linebackers coach Jerod Mayo is believed to be a leading candidate for the job. Mayo, the team’s 2008 No. 10 overall pick, played for the Patriots from 2008-2015.
Another name to watch in New England will be former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel, who was part of three of the Patriots’ Super Bowl-winning teams.
