Could the Bill Belichick era with the New England Patriots be nearing its end?

According to reports, Patriots owner Robert Kraft is “downright angry” with Belichick amid the team’s ongoing struggles.

The Patriots have been outscored 72-3 in their past two games.

The report comes following the Patriots’ 34-0 loss to the New Orleans Saints in Week 5. In Week 4, New England fell 38-3 to the Dallas Cowboys.

“There’s a school of thought that suggests Bill Belichick has earned the right to go out on his own accord, that the architect of the greatest dynasty in NFL history can coach in New England as long as he chooses,” Jeff Howe of The Athletic wrote. “Kraft doesn’t subscribe to it.”

Howe added, “On multiple occasions in recent years, he has lamented the team’s lack of a postseason victory in the post-Brady era.”

Since Brady left the Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Patriots have gone 26-29 and made just one postseason appearance which resulted in a 47-17 shellacking by the division rival Buffalo Bills.

It would certainly be shocking to see Belichick, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest head coaches in NFL history, have his tenure come to an end by being fired.

But with the Patriots sitting at 1-4 and showing no signs of life on offense while the owner is growing increasingly frustrated, it could be closer to reality than anyone could have ever imagined.

Belichick and New England will look to right the ship in Week 6 when they travel to Allegiant Stadium to take on the Las Vegas Raiders.
