Wild Video Shows Nebraska TE Arik Gilbert Burglarizing Store & His Arrest

Nebraska tight end Arik Gilbert, a former five-star recruit and two-time transfer, was arrested on Tuesday, August 29 on burglary charges in Lincoln. Gilbert was accused of robbing a liquor store/vape shop of more than $1,600.

Well, now there is a video of Gilbert in the act.

The video, which was shared by TMZ Sports, shows the 21-year-old throwing a chunk of cement through the building door before crawling inside. After kicking down another door, the man alleged to be Gilbert can be seen rummaging through the store and grabbing multiple items before exiting.

Once in the hallway outside, police enter the building after receiving a call for a potential burglary and Gilbert is confronted. He drops the bag, puts his hands up, and gets on the ground. Gilbert was arrested outside of the store.

The incident comes at a time when Gilbert was waiting for approval from the NCAA for immediate eligibility in the 2023 season. This won’t be helping his case.

Nebraska head coach Matt Rhule briefly commented on Gilbert’s arrest saying he was “Disappointed for him and his family, disappointed, obviously, for the business owner.”

Gilbert began his career at LSU as the No. 1 tight end in the nation. After earning Freshman All-SEC honors, Gilbert transferred to the University of Georgia. Gilbert left Georgia in the middle of fall camp for “personal issues” before returning in 2022 for three games.
