Nebraska tight end Arik Gilbert, a former five-star recruit and two-time transfer, was arrested Tuesday on a burglary charge, according to a report from CBS Sports. Gilbert was arrested at a vape shot in Lincoln, Nebraska at 2:00 a.m local time.
Gilbert reportedly had a bag containing over $1,600 worth of products from the shop.
It is horrible timing for Gilbert, who is still awaiting a decision from the NCAA on his immediate availability for the 2023 college football season.
Gilbert began his career at LSU as the No. 1 tight end in the nation. After earning Freshman All-SEC honors, Gilbert transferred to the University of Georgia. Gilbert left Georgia in the middle of fall camp for “personal issues” before returning in 2022 for three games.
Now, at his third school as an undergrad, Gilbert will have to wait to be granted eligibility to play in 2023 by the NCAA.
One thing that won’t help his case is getting arrested at 2:00 a.m. for stealing from a vape shop.
