It’s funny to continue seeing how wrong people who said the NIL era could ruin college sports. We continue to see incredible moments with deserving student-athletes getting deals that will help them moving forward, and now former NFL star Drew Brees is getting involved.
Walk-On’s Sports Bistreux, a sports bar with 50+ locations nationwide, recently started a program that honors a “Walk-on of the Week” which provides NIL deals to some of the student-athletes who need it the most.
The most recent recipient was Purdue softball player Emilee Cox, who was on a video call with CEO Brandon Landry who broke the news.
But during the call, Cox got a special surprise when Drew Brees, a Purdue University alum, popped into the call. Brees co-owns Walk-On’s parent company. As you may expect, Cox was thrilled with the surprise.

Cox reportedly turned down other offers to walk-on at Purdue, and the move definitely paid off. The deal will provide cash that will help with her tuition and other bills.
“Emilee, I’ve heard so much about you,” Brees said. “Congratulations! Great work, Emilee, So happy for you and keep representing everything that’s great about Purdue.”
