On Saturday, February 27, former Notre Dame football star Louis Nix III was found dead at age 29 after being reported missing earlier in the week.

Following the news of his passing, the University of Notre Dame and head football coach Brian Kelly issued statements on Nix’s death as the Notre Dame community mourns his death.

“Louis Nix, ‘Irish Chocolate,’ we carry these memories until we see you again,” Kelly wrote on Twitter alongside a highlight video from Nix’s time with the Fighting Irish.

The official Notre Dame football account added, “We are saddened by the loss of one of our own, Louis Nix III.

“We send our deepest condolences and love to his family, friends and football brotherhood. Forever in our hearts, Big Lou.”

Nix’s former teammates also took to social media to pay tribute to their late-teammate.

Nix played at Notre Dame for four seasons from 2010-2013 where he was a standout defensive lineman before being drafted by the Houston Texans in the third round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
