“I wish. It’s over,” was what Greg Oden told The IndyStar in 2016 when asked about his future basketball prospects — a surprise to no one given his extensive injury history.
However! It appears Oden has had a change of heart and is looking to get back on the hardwood for Ice Cube’s Big3 league. The league announced on Monday that Oden has joined their 2018 draft pool, joining the likes of Smush Parker, Stromile Swift, Nate Robinson, and more.
The last time Oden played professional basketball was back in 2015 during his stint with the Jiangsu Dragons in China. He was cut by the team after averaging 13 points and 12 rebounds in 25 games.
We hate the rain on Oden’s comeback parade, but this is obviously a terrible idea. No one wants to see a washed up Oden riving in pain after shredding his knee playing three-on-three ball — it would just be sad for everyone involved.
Also, the Big3 had MAJOR injury issues in their first season. Jason Williams, Corey Maggette, and Kenyon Martin all went down so yeah… we don’t exactly have high hopes for Oden keeping a clean bill of health if he actually joins a squad.
