Hall Of Famer Ed Reed Named Bethune-Cookman Football Coach

Baltimore Ravens legend Ed Reed is set to become a head coach.

On Tuesday, December 27, the Bethune-Cookman football program announced that the Pro Football Hall of Famer would become the 16th head coach in Wildcats history. Reed had been serving as the Miami Hurricanes chief of staff since January 2020.

Now, his attention will go toward turning around the struggling SWAC program.

Reed will be replacing former head coach Terry Sims, who was fired in November after seven seasons leading the program. The HBCU — which is located in Daytona Beach, Florida — has finished back-to-back seasons with 2-9 records and has not had a winning season since 2019.

In recent years, a number of legendary former pro players have taken over HBCU head coaches. Most notably, Deion Sanders turned around a struggling Jackson State program before leaving for Colorado earlier this month, while Eddie George recently took over as head coach at Tennessee State.

While the 44-year-old Reed has spent the past three seasons at his alma mater under head coach Mario Cristobal, he was also an assistant defensive backs coach with the Buffalo Bills in 2016. We will have to see how things go now that he is the lead man in charge.
