This story is one of those ones that is nearly impossible to believe, but it happened in central Colorado.
Two small airplanes were preparing to land at Centennial Airport over Cherry Creek State Park when they crashed in midair with extensive damage including one plane nearly being split in half.
One of the planes landed safely at the airport, while the other needed to deploy a parachute to help it land safely four miles north of the airport.
“You expect a lot worse. This was amazing,” Arapahoe County Sheriff’s deputy John Bartmann told reporters, via CNN. “We’ve had several plane crashes in our jurisdiction. Never have we seen a parachute be deployed and bring the plane down safely.
“Every one of these pilots needs to go buy a lottery ticket right now. I don’t remember anything like this — especially everybody walking away. I mean that’s the amazing part of this.”
