Kadarius Toney’s Rough Start with Browns

Kadarius Toney didn’t make it to the Kansas City Chiefs’ main team for the 2024 season, so they let him go.

He then got some interest from other teams and signed with the Cleveland Browns.

Toney started on the Browns’ practice squad but had a chance to join their main team because they needed more wide receivers. He was seen in a Browns uniform, but he wasn’t practicing because of a minor injury. Scott Petrak from Browns Zone mentioned that this injury is just another one in Toney’s career filled with injuries.

This isn’t new for Toney. He’s had a tough time staying healthy throughout his NFL career. In three seasons, he’s never played more than 13 games in one year and missed many matches due to injuries. He was even out during Kansas City’s first preseason game last year.

Toney was picked by the New York Giants in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, expected to be a star player. But by mid-2022, he was traded to the Chiefs. He showed some talent and had big moments in the Super Bowl but struggled with drops and injuries.

Heading into 2024, Toney’s stats aren’t impressive: just 760 receiving yards and three touchdowns over three seasons—numbers you’d expect from one good season, not three.

Joining the Browns was supposed to be a fresh start for Toney. The Chiefs had too many wide receivers, but the Browns didn’t have much talent at that position beyond Amari Cooper and Jerry Jeudy. Toney could’ve made a big impact.

The minor injury is good news, but he needs to be on the field to prove himself. Hopefully, he recovers quickly because both he and the Browns need him back soon.
