Patriots Determined to Pursue Star Wide Receiver Trade

The New England Patriots’ offense isn’t as figured out as you might think with the season just around the corner. Jerod Mayo, who’s taken over coaching duties, is more open with reporters than Bill Belichick ever was. He’s giving fans a peek into what’s happening in Foxboro.

New England is expected to start the season with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback and a weak wide receiver group. Last year, their pass-catchers were among the worst in the league. Rookie Ja’Lynn Polk has shown promise during training camp, but one good rookie can’t usually fix an entire receiving corps.

There’s still hope for a big trade to improve the WR room. Drake Maye’s strong preseason has Mayo considering a shakeup at quarterback.

For a while, rumors swirled about Brandon Aiyuk joining the Patriots. He’s holding out, and without a huge QB contract weighing them down, New England could afford him. However, Aiyuk turned down their offers and GM Eliot Wolf said they’ve closed that door.

But don’t lose hope yet! Another exciting possibility is Dallas Cowboys’ All-Pro CeeDee Lamb.

Patriots Eyeing Cowboys Amidst CeeDee Lamb’s Holdout

CeeDee Lamb’s contract talks with Dallas have hit a snag, and his social media posts are only adding fuel to the fire. The 25-year-old had an incredible season last year with 135 catches, 1,749 yards, and 12 touchdowns. If Dallas doesn’t pay up, another team surely will.

Jerod Mayo didn’t shy away when asked about Lamb’s situation in Dallas. “You can’t talk about players on other teams, but you can put a call in,” he said.

Lamb would be a game-changer for the Patriots’ offense. One player doesn’t make an entire offense great, but adding Lamb could elevate their WR group from one of the worst to one of the best instantly. There’s some optimism around DeMario Douglas and Ja’Lynn Polk too, but neither is a true No. 1 receiver like Lamb.

New England still needs to strengthen its offensive line and add more talent overall, but Lamb would be a massive upgrade by himself. He’d take pressure off other receivers and create opportunities for his quarterback.

Drake Maye has loads of talent but needs reliable targets to throw to—Lamb fits that bill perfectly.

It might cost over $30 million per year plus valuable draft picks for Lamb.

But if he’s available? The Patriots should act fast.
