Starting in 2028, the Olympics will add new sports to make the games more fun and exciting for everyone. One of these new sports is flag football, which has got NFL fans dreaming about a super Team USA lineup.
Imagine Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, Ja’Marr Chase, and Justin Jefferson all playing together. It would be like an NFL Pro Bowl but with even more intensity because they’d be representing their country. The defense would be just as amazing, with top American players.
These lineups sound like something out of an NFL fan’s dream. It’s not just for fun; it’s serious competition, just like how Olympic basketball players give it their all. But there’s a twist.
While many are excited about seeing NFL stars in the Olympics, there’s already a national flag football team that feels overlooked. Yes, that’s right – the current USA national flag football team exists and they’re not happy about being ignored.
Darrell Doucette, the team’s quarterback, recently called out NFL players who think they’ll easily join the Olympic team. He said it’s “disrespectful” to assume they can just walk in without having helped grow the sport to this level.

“I think it’s disrespectful that they just automatically assume that they’re able to just join the Olympic team because of the person that they are – they didn’t help grow this game to get to the Olympics,” Doucette said. “Give the guys who helped this game get to where it’s at their respect.”
Here’s my take: we should put our best athletes on the field for the Olympics. If someone from the national flag football team is better than Patrick Mahomes from the Kansas City Chiefs, then sure, let them play.
But let’s be real: they don’t have anyone better than Mahomes. They also don’t have receivers or defenders better than what’s in the NFL. Seriously?
The goal of the Olympics is to win gold for your country by using your best players – in this case, NFL stars. And thinking that the national flag football team is why flag football is now an Olympic sport? Come on. Most people didn’t even know Doucette or that there was a national flag football team until now.
So yeah, let’s use our best players and go for gold!
