When they say that you can buy anything on Amazon, they really mean it. Even some things that may be a little dangerous.
Enter the brand Want A Bump? — which is a snortable caffeine powder available online.
Amazon sells one-gram vials for $14.99, and it apparently works very well. But doctors are warning people about the possible “overdose” dangers of snorting the substance.
“Caffeine in food or drink is slower to absorb than through the nose,” Dr. Shaline Rao Director of Heart Failure Services at NYU Langone Hospital, Long Island told the New York Post.
“Because of this, sniffers should put extra care to be precise in delivery and to note the how much they’ve consumed. The key is keeping the amount safe and to note the upper limit of uses, to avoid overdose, and [allow] appropriate time between doses.
“I would worry that repeat inhalation of caffeine through the nose could result in damage to the nares.”
What makes the product even more dangerous and worrisome is that “influencers” on social media have been promoting the product with what appears to be an organized campaign.
Want a Bump? offers applications to its influencer promotional program that offers cash incentives to people who share videos using the product on their social platforms.
Want A Bump? launched last summer and is really leaning into its snortable use.
The company goes as far as to sell fake rolled money as a method of consumption. So while you may seem intrigued by snortable caffeine, proceed with caution.
