A passenger on budget airline SpiceJet had quite the eventful trip earlier this week on a one-hour-and-45-minute night flight from Mumbai to Bengaluru, according to the Indian Express.

After using the restroom, the passenger attempted to leave the lavatory when a lock malfunction kept them trapped inside.

“On 16 January, a passenger unfortunately got stuck inside the lavatory for about an hour on SpiceJet flight operating from Mumbai to Bengaluru, while the aircraft was airborne due to a malfunction in the door lock,” SpiceJet explained in a statement.

The airplane crew attempted to free the passenger from the bathroom lockdown but was unsuccessful.

As the plane was landing, the crewmembers slid a note under the door to give proper instructions.

“Sir we tried our best to open the door, however, we could not,” the letter read. “Do not panic. We are landing in a few minutes, so please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, an engineer will come.”

Once the plane landed, two engineers came onto the plane and broke the door open.

The passenger was given a full refund on his flight for the inconvenience. Hopefully, he received some free flights for the future.
