It’s no surprise that Florida State is unhappy with the current situation in the ACC after their perceived snub from the College Football Playoff.
The university has actively been exploring options to leave the conference and they have taken a major step.
On Friday, the Board of Trustees held a meeting and announced that it would be challenging the ACC’s Grant of Rights with Board Chair Peter Collins saying, “Today we’ve reached a crossroads in our relationship with the ACC. I believe this board is left with no choice but to challenge the Grant of Rights.”
But, if Florida State is to leave the conference, it will carry a major price tag.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel shared a chart from Florida State which claims it is estimated it will cost the university a whopping $572 to leave the conference with “both exit fees and unwinding from grant of rights.”

Board Chair Peter Collins further explained the school’s decision to pursue the departure.
“People outside of FSU might suggest that we are taking action now because of what happened in the College Football Playoff selection of the final four teams. They will say that we are bitter and just want retribution. First, I would say that leaving Florida State out of the playoff was absolutely wrong, a travesty on college football and an insult to FSU’s players and coaches, as well as the ACC,” he said. “Second, I will say that our actions today are less about the events of the last two weeks and far more about the actions of the ACC leadership over the last 10 years, and what confronts the ACC over the next 13 years.”

There is no telling how this will ultimately end, but there’s no doubt the two sides have strong differences and it will be a bitter divorce if Florida State gets its way.
