The Coastal Carolina football program caused a stir on social media after posting a photo on the beach to promote their showdown with San Jose State in the Hawaii Bowl on Saturday night.

Chanticleers head coach Tim Beck was at the center of the photo without wearing a shirt because, well, it was on the beach.

Beck was then flanked by the school mascot and members of the dance team, who were all in bikinis. The photo apparently triggered some people who then began complaining that it was inappropriate.

Ultimately, the photo was deleted.

Beck, the dancers, and the mascot were simply promoting the program while in Hawaii ahead of the Early Signing Period. The head coach released a statement on social media explaining the purpose of the photo and why it was deleted.

Both are something that he should have never had to do. But, alas, he tried to clear the air.

“The photo that was posted to our team’s social media accounts was meant to support our University. The decision to post the photo for #Teal Tuesday was mine. We are in Hawai’i as a program and our Dance Team is an important part of that,” Beck wrote on X. “As Head Football Coach, I am responsible for all aspects of our program. The decision to delete the photo was made because the focus on the post was distracting from our time in Hawai’i and our preparation for Saturday’s game. That decision was mine.

“We appreciate the Dance Team, the Band, the Cheerleaders, the CAF, and everyone from Teal Nation who has supported us throughout the year. We look forward to a great rest of the week and a great bowl game against San Jose State.”

It’s ridiculous that a harmless photo caused outrage on social media, but what do you expect in today’s day and age.

Kickoff between the Chanticleers and Spartans is set for 10:30 p.m. ET.
