Morgan State University has canceled this weekend’s homecoming football game against Stony Brook following an on-campus shooting this week that left five people injured.
University president David Wilson announced the news that along with the football game, all other homecoming events, and classes have been canceled for the remainder of the week.
“Today, we unfortunately find ourselves navigating this tragic event during a time at which we should be celebrating our National Treasure during Homecoming. Please understand that the safety of our campus is of the utmost importance and our resolve in ensuring that we have a secure campus is paramount,” Wilson said in a statement.

“Regarding Homecoming, regrettably for the very first time in Morgan’s history, all activities planned around Homecoming will be either canceled or postponed until the perpetrator(s) of this atrocity have been found and brought to justice.”
Other events that are canceled include a homecoming concert, dance, pep rally, parade, and volleyball match.
Morgan State will return to the field at home on October 19 against North Carolina Central.
Earlier this week, at least two gunmen open-fired injuring five victims — between the ages of 18 and 22. No arrests have been made at this time.
