Week 3 of the college football season is in the books. Fans settled in for a few conference matchups, as well as a few rivalries that took most of the talking points. However, for the most part, Week 3 didn’t provide a lot of memorable moments. However, there were a few moments that stood out over the rest. Here are 5 headlines from the week that was.

5. Beaver Love

The Oregon State football program has long been a member of the Island of Misfit Toys. The Beavers are coming off of back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2012-2013. Behind a defense that has only allowed 33 points in 3 games, the Beavers cruised past San Diego State on Saturday with a 26-9. One can argue that the Beavers have yet to face a true challenge this season. That all changes when they travel to Washinton State this weekend.

4. Flordia State Survives BC Scare

It wasn’t the prettiest victory; nevertheless, it was still a victory. Flordia State held on for a 31-29 victory on the road over Boston College. The matchup between the two was high emotion from the beginning, as this was the annual ‘Red Bandana Game’ for the Eagles. The Seminoles are proving they belong early this season and now await a heavyweight matchup with Clemson this Saturday.

3. Not The Alabama We Know

Alabama hasn’t lost three games in a season since 2010. Just three games into their 2023 campaign, the Crimson Tide already have one loss and one pitiful performance in a 17-3 win over South Florida. The game was a mess from the start, as head coach Nick Saban hasn’t been able to trust any of the three quarterbacks that have played. Along with a lengthy weather delay, the program had to be happy this one was just over. For now, it doesn’t look like Alabama will be anywhere near playoff discussions this season.

2. Colorado Lives To Fight Another Day

The Colorado football program has been the most fun story to follow this season. A team that only had one victory in 2022 is now 3-0 heading into a Top 25 matchup with Oregon. Deion Sanders has changed the entire culture in Boulder, and that was on full display in the team’s 43-35 victory over Colorado State. The trash talk brought the game to a fever pitch before kickoff. Yes, the Buffaloes were massive favorites, but rivalry games do not care for point spreads. While the performance will be dissected all week, Sanders and his team have already exceeded expectations for this season.

1. It Doesn’t Feel Like 98

The Tennessee fanbase was coming off a high from the team’s incredible 2022 season. The Volunteers finished 11-2, which is something the program hadn’t done since 2001. So, it was apparent most expected the team to compete with Georgia for the SEC East crown. However, unranked Flordia had different plans. The Gators took down Tennessee 29-16 in a game where tensions boiled over as the final seconds ticked off the scoreboard. It was a sour moment for the Tennessee program. It’s one that could dictate how the rest of this season plays out.
