The Alabama football team will be rolling out a new starting quarterback in Week 3 against the South Florida Bulls.
Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban announced that Jalen Milroe will be heading to the bench and Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner will get his first start.
The decision comes after Milroe went only 14-of-27 and threw two interceptions in Alabama’s loss to the Texas Longhorns in Tuscaloosa. It was the Crimson Tide’s worst loss of the Nick Saban era.
Now, the sophomore Buchner gets the call.
“We evaluate every position every week. If guys want security in their position, they need to play well,” head coach Nick Saban said this week, via 247 Sports. “Everybody on our team knows that. I think everybody has responded in a positive way to try to get better and to improve.
“We’ll constantly evaluate that position as we do every other position.”

Last season, Buchner started the season as Notre Dame’s starting quarterback before suffering a shoulder injury in the second game of the season. He returned for bowl season and recorded 7 total touchdowns (5 passing and 2 rushing) in a 45-38 win over South Carolina in the Gator Bowl.
Buchner has impressed the Crimson Tide staff in scrimmages and practice, so we will have to see how that translates to an actual game.
Kickoff between No. 10 Alabama and South Florida at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
