Former NFL defensive back Buster Skrine was arrested in Canada on 14 charges.

According to TMZ Sports, Skrine is accused of defrauding banks of more than $100,000. The 34-year-old Skrine’s charges include four counts of fraud over $5,000, seven counts of making false statements to produce money, three counts of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000, and one count of possession of property obtained by a crime over $5,000.

Skrine would allegedly attend “numerous financial institutions” to open bank accounts. Skrine would identify himself as a retired NFL player and open the accounts with fraudulent checks and then take out money before the check was cleared.

Authorities also believe Skrine may have committed similar crimes across Canada.

“There is reason to believe the same male has been committing similar [offenses] across Canada,” Durham Regional Police Service wrote in a statement.

Skrine was a fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2011 and played for 11 seasons in the NFL. Skrine, who also played for the New York Jets and Tennessee Titans, last played in 2021 and earned over $40 million throughout his career.
