No. 1 pick Victor Wembanyama made his highly-anticipated San Antonio Spurs debut on Friday night in the Las Vegas Summer League.
Wembanyama and the Spurs earned a 76-68 win over No. 2 pick Brandon Miller and the Charlotte Hornets at the Thomas & Mack Center at UNLV, but Wembanyama had a difficult night shooting.
The 19-year-old, 7-foot-4 phenom finished with 9 points, 8 rebounds, 5 blocks, and 3 assists, but went just 2-for-13 from the field.
After the game, Wembanyama opened up about his debut performance and gave an honest admission about some of the struggles he faced throughout the game.

“It was special,” Wembanyama said after the game. “It was really special to wear that jersey for the first time. It’s really an honor. Overall, I’m glad we won this game. There’s no better way to start for your premiere. Honestly, I didn’t really know what I was doing on the court tonight. I’m trying to learn for next game.”
The rookie also told reporters that he needs to work on his conditioning and get back into shape.
“I think there’s a lot of conditioning to do,” Wembanyama said, via ESPN.com. “Especially with our play style, we run a lot. It’s really exhausting. Even though it was 40 minutes tonight, when I subbed out, I was always tired and exhausted. So I think there’s a lot of conditioning to do.”
The Spurs return to action on Sunday night against the Portland Trail Blazers and No. 3 pick Scoot Henderson, but there is now word on if or how much Wembanyama will play.
