The sports world lost a legend, with news that Jim Brown, one of the greatest athletes of all-time, passed away at age 87.
Brown was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1971.
“Legend. Leader. Activist. Visionary,” the Browns said in a statement.
“It’s impossible to describe the profound love and gratitude we feel for having the opportunity to be a small piece of Jim’s incredible life and legacy. We mourn his passing, but celebrate the indelible light he brought to the world.
“Our hearts are with Jim’s family, loved ones, and all those he impacted along the way.”

Throughout his career, Brown rushed for 12,312 yards and led the NFL in rushing eight times in nine seasons. Brown was named to the Pro Bowl nine times and was on the NFL champion Browns in 1964. Brown ultimately retired at age 30 to focus on the civil rights movement.
Brown is also a member of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, earning first-team All-american honors and scoring more than 70 goals during his two years at Syracuse.
