There was some very unexpected news in the college football world this week regarding a forgotten recruit.

Former four-star recruit Marcus Stokes, who lost his scholarship with the Florida Gators after sharing a video of himself using a racial slur while singing along to a song, has popped back up on the radar with a surprising offer.

On Tuesday, Stokes took to social media to announce he has received an offer from Albany State University in Georgia.

What caught the attention of everyone is that Albany State, who play in the NCAA Division II Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), is an HBCU.

When Stokes initially caught backlash for his video, he immediately issued an apology.

“I deeply apologize for the words in the song that I chose to say,” he said at the time. “I fully accept the consequences for my actions and I respect the University of Florida’s decision to withdraw my scholarship offer to play football.”

Now, Stokes will get another opportunity — albeit it an unexpected one — to get his football career off of the ground.
