Steelers Would Reportedly Sign Baker Mayfield ‘The Next Day’ If He’s Cut

NEW YORK, NY - DECEMBER 4: Baker Mayfield attends the 32nd FN Achievement Awards at IAC Headquarters on December 4, 2018 in New York City.

The latest Baker Mayfield rumors claim the former first-round pick could easily stay in the AFC North next season.

According to NFL insider Jeff Darlington on Tuesday’s episode of ESPN’s Get Up, the Pittsburgh Steelers would sign Mayfield “the very next day” if he was cut by the Cleveland Browns.

Mayfield has admitted to feeling “disrespected” by the Browns and their relationship continues to fracture following Cleveland’s trade for Deshaun Watson, who was later signed to a record deal.

The Steelers are seeking a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger following his retirement and signed former first-rounder Mitch Trubisky earlier in the offseason, but they have also previously been linked to Mayfield with Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer saying the team would “pounce” on an opportunity to sign the disgruntled signal-caller.

The Browns could lower their asking price and trade Mayfield in the coming months, but if they decide to cut him outright it will be interesting to see where he lands.

If he ends up in Pittsburgh, the Steelers-Browns rivalry just gets that much more interesting.
