Spencer Rattler is leaving the Oklahoma football program.

On Monday, the quarterback announced that he will be entering the transfer portal. Rattler entered the season as a potential No. 1 overall pick and the Heisman Trophy favorite. However, he was benched during the season in favor of five-star freshman Caleb Williams.

“Sooner Nation, thank you for allowing me to be a student-athlete at this prestigious institution,” Rattler wrote in a statement. “Thank you to every teammate and coach these last three seasons. We won several games together and made memories that I will cherish forever. Special thanks to my family and friends for your support.

“Thank God for the game of football. It’s the ultimate team sport and brings people and communities together unlike anything else. At this time, I would like to announce that I have decided to enter the transfer portal to continue my academic and athletic career.”

Rattler entering the transfer portal is the latest shakeup for the Oklahoma football program.

On Sunday, it was announced that head coach Lincoln Riley will be leaving the Sooners after accepting the USC Trojans head coaching gig. Bob Stoops will coach the Sooners in their bowl game while a search for a new head coach gets underway.
