There was massive news out of Norman, Oklahoma, on Sunday, when it was announced that Lincoln Riley was leaving the Sooners program to be the next head coach of the USC Trojans.
With the Sooners now scrambling for Riley’s replacement, the oddsmakers jumped in to give us a look at who could fill the vacancy.
Who will be the next man up?
Here are the current odds for the next head coach at Oklahoma, via SportsBetting.ag.
- Luke Fickell 3-1
- Matt Campbell 4-1
- Bob Stoops 5-1
- Mark Stoops 6-1
- Brent Venables 7-1
- Josh Huepel 15-2
- Dave Aranda 8-1
- Jay Norvell 9-1
- Alex Grinch 12-1
- Kliff Kingsbury 16-1
Some heavyweight names top the list, with one familiar name cracking the list for Oklahoma fans. While some fans may welcome former head coach Bob Stoops back with open arms, Luke Fickell is an interesting name when thinking about building a future for the program.
Fickell has recently said he is staying at Cincinnati, but a large bag of money to coach a premier program like Oklahoma could change his mind.
Bob Stoops will finish the season as the interim head coach for the Sooners. Stoops spent 18 years as the leader of the sidelines in Norman before retiring in 2016. Bob isn’t the only Stoops to see his name on the shortlist for the next head coach of Oklahoma.

Bob’s younger brother Mark seems to be a name being mentioned for the recent vacancy. Mark’s work at Kentucky has many programs interested in having a conversation with the younger Stoops.
With the LSU job still open, two historic programs will look to get back on track with significant hires this off-season.
