As the college football season rolls on, the Maxwell Football Club continues to announce its weekly honors. Following Week 4 of the 2021 campaign, the Maxwell Football Club announced its latest Maxwell Award Player of the Week and Bednarik Award Player of the Week.

The Maxwell Award Player of the Week will be recognized for overall performance on offense, defense, or special teams. The Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week, meanwhile, will be honored for outstanding defensive play.

This week’s Maxwell Award Player of the Week went to Texas Longhorns quarterback Casey Thompson, who threw for 332 yards and a whopping six touchdowns in the Longhorns’ 70-35 shellacking of Texas Tech.

Defensively, Arkansas defensive lineman Tre Williams picked up the honor.

Additional information on the Week 5 Player of the Week winners can be seen below.

Maxwell Award Player of the Week: QB Casey Thompson, Texas

It took some tinkering and an early loss, but first-year coach Steve Sarkisian now has his offensive parts in place to make a serious run in the Big 12. The Longhorns dismantled Texas Tech, 70-35, behind a balanced eruption. Thompson was responsible for 332 yards and six touchdowns, five through the air, and RB Bijan Robinson amassed 191 total yards. Meanwhile, true freshman Xavier Worthy caught three of Thompson’s scoring strikes. With Thompson at the controls, UT has now cranked out more than 600 yards in back-to-back games for just the second time in school history.

Bednarik Award Player of the Week: DL Tre Williams, Arkansas

A lot of pro scouts attending Arkansas-Texas A&M scribbled the #55 in their notebooks Saturday afternoon. Williams, a Missouri transfer, delivered a show-me effort as the Razorbacks remained undefeated with another impressive win over a ranked team. The Hogs allowed just 10 points and 272 yards, aided by the constant backfield pressure applied by Williams. The 6-5, 255-pounder dominated the left side with a pair of sacks and enough hurries to prevent QB Zach Calzada from setting his feet in the pocket.
