Rutgers fans will have to wait a little longer to see the Scarlet Knights kick-off the 2021 season. The game against Temple has now been postponed to Saturday due to the damaging flooding that hit the Piscataway area on Wednesday night. Remnants of Hurricane Ida barreled through the Northeast on Wednesday night, leaving behind destruction in the New York/New Jersey area. Piscataway Township is still dealing with damage and ongoing search and rescue operations.

Before the university decided to postpone the game, Piscataway Township asked that if the university still planned on having the game Thursday night, the Township wanted it to happen without fans. Piscataway Public Works deemed the Township infrastructure unsafe and overwhelmed by the damage of Hurricane Ida. The Scarlet Knights will play on Saturday at a time to be decided. The university wants fans’ to be in attendance, but they also understand that the well-being of everyone in the stadium is more important.
