Sam Darnold is on the move.
The New York Jets have decided to move on from the former first-round pick by trading the quarterback to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a package of draft picks.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets will receive a 2021 sixth-round draft and two future 2022 picks — a second- and fourth-rounder.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network later confirmed the news.
Last season, Darnold threw for 2,208 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Throughout his career in New York, the former USC star has tossed 8,097 yards, 45 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions.
In Carolina, Darnold will serve as a backup to Teddy Bridgewater.
The move all but guarantees the Jets will be looking to draft their quarterback of the future when the team is on the clock with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Many have linked BYU star Zach Wilson to Gang Green.
