However, the one mark against him was his brief stint in the NFL as head coach of the Miami Dolphins back in 2004. Saban’s tenure in Miami ended in 2006 after compiling a 15-17 record.
Jay Glazer of FOX Sports shed some light on why Saban struggled in the NFL and it is because he brought his hardball tactics from college to the pros.
In fact, Glazer says two different Miami Dolphins players attempted to fight Saban after disagreements with him.
“Nick Saban, the reason why he didn’t make it in the NFL, Daunte Culpepper tried to fight him one day and the security guy stepped in,” Glazer said. “And then I think his final straw is that he questioned Zach Thomas’ toughness and Zach almost kicked his butt. That just doesn’t work on this level.”
Glazer then used Saban’s missteps in the NFL to offer up advice for former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who is now head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
We will have to see how it plays out.
