For about a good four hours, Kobe Bryant stans were rock hard over the possibility of their washed up hero playing in the Big3. Yes. Vanessa Bryant shutdown those Lakers rumors in July, but the idea of a Kobe comeback gained steam again today with Big3 co-owner Jeff Kwatinetz floating that he heard from a “credible source” the Black Mamba would play next season.

From Yahoo’s Ben Rohrbach:

Here are the actual responses from Cube and Kwatinetz to a question about Bryant’s BIG3 interest:
Cube: “We have a list of people that we would love to see, I think the fans would love to see. The fans would love to see Kobe, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce. Anybody who still has the passion to play. We don’t want you if you don’t have the passion to play. If Kobe doesn’t have the passion to play at this level, then it’s better for him to watch on tv. If he has the passion, then here we are.”
Kwatinetz: “I did hear from a credible source that Kobe is going to be playing next year. That’s something, but it may be nothing.”
Cube: “That would be amazing.”

A ridiculous rumor, and it was promptly shutdown by the Associated Press’ Brian Mahoney:

There you go. Kobe isn’t returning to basketball in any capacity next season — not with the Lakers, and sure as hell not for some league that features the likes of Ryan Hollins and fat Metta World Peace. Why risk any more body parts when is making bank on sports drinks?
