Let’s Check In With Saquon Barkley At The Combine & See How He’s Doing

RB Saquon Barkley had 29 bench press reps and a 41” vertical leap at the 2018 Combine.

The only player with 25+ bench press reps and a 40+ inch vertical at the 2017 Combine was eventual #1 overall pick DE Myles Garrett (33 reps, 41” vertical)@PennStateFball@saquonb21

Uh oh, now the Browns might be in a very tough position. Saquon Barkley might’ve just forced them to start rethinking the whole quarterback with the No. 1 pick because the Penn State running back put on a show today at the Combine in three physical phases.

The 40 smoked wide receivers who are now dominating the NFL (Antonio Brown?). The bench press made grown men gasp and the vertical put Barkley into Myles Garrett territory. The Browns couldn’t possibly take running back at No. 1, could they? Will he even be there at No. 4? Imagine being John Dorsey here. You have those two top picks, but kinda needed Saquon to be average at one of the physical tests.

Now the guy goes and dominates and puts all sorts of pressure on a team searching for a victory, a quarterback who can stay on his feet and some sort of offensive weapon to make the team competent.

I say take him at 4 if he’s there, but go ahead and take Darnold at No. 1.

There are only 2 players to weigh 230+ lbs, run the 40-yard dash in 4.40 seconds or faster, and vertical jump 40" or higher at the Combine since 2003:

Vernon Davis (2006)
Saquon Barkley (2018)

Saquon Barkley just posted a 41” vertical jump. That’s fairly impressive. That’s comparable to about a 215-pound WR. Barkley weighed in at 233. #PennState #NFLCombine
