I’m not in Minnesota, but if I had to guess, I’d say the far majority of fans in town for the Super Bowl are Eagles fans. They’re still looking for the first ring, so if the Birds are playing in the big game, you can bet the city will be flooded with their fans. Pats fans are a different story. They aren’t making this trip. They’ve got rings coming out of their ears.
So with a majority of Eagles fans in town for the weekend, the E-A-G-L-E-S chant is obviously everywhere right now. But the Mall Of America is cracking down. The mall cops and their segways were cracking yesterday, and cracking down hard. Any Eagles chants and any dog masks got you a warning. 2 strikes and they were tossing people.
At the Super Bowl. Before the game the Eagles are playing in.
Details from NBC Philly:
After a particularly raucous moment and loud Eagles cheer on Friday afternoon, security was on the case looking for who started the chant. We were told by mall security that fans starting the Eagles cheer would be given a warning before eventually being removed from the establishment for starting the chant.
Additionally, fans at the Mall of America, which has become Super Bowl central this week, are not permitted to wear dog masks while on the premises. These four masked men, who we asked for a photo, indicated that security was watching them to make sure they did not wear the masks anymore in the mall.
A little overboard, no? I get the dog masks being a issue, but the chant is a little much. I think we can probably chalk this one up to salty Vikings fans still dealing with the loss.
