Diamondbacks outfielder Yasmany Tomas was arrested and charged with reckless driving and criminal speeding Thursday. According to KTAR, Thomas was allegedly driving 105 mph on a Tempe freeway, though he wasn’t under the influence of anything. Just a case of really bad decision making.
The report notes his Mercedes-Benz was impounded and that he’s facing upwards of 30 days in jail, plus a $500 fine for the criminal speeding charge.
This, of course, should be no issue with the fat $68.5 contract he got in 2014. Tomas has been a huge disappointment through three seasons, and the D’backs are still on the hook for 42.5 million if he exercises his player options.
Here’s the statement from the Diamondbacks:

“We are very disappointed to learn of this news. We are still gathering facts, and will refrain from further comment at this time as this is a pending legal matter.”
