This is an interesting list, to say the least. I realize South Carolina is #1 by a pretty solid margin, but I was definitely expecting to click on this and see somewhere between 7-10 SEC fan bases rounding out the top ten fan ejections from 2016. But somehow we only have 3. Not to mention there are some shockers on here. Wyoming? Utah? Both Oregon schools where weed is legal and everyone is chill as shit? Not what I was expecting at all.
A report from KGW in Portland has more details:
The records show at least 3,778 fans were ejected during the 2016 football season and 1,102 fans were arrested.
Based on the records provided, the University of South Carolina had the highest fan ejection rate in the country, followed by Wisconsin, Oregon, Oregon State and Nebraska.
That doesn’t necessarily mean those schools had the rowdiest fans. Comparisons are difficult because stadiums have varying policies on dealing with unruly fans. Not all colleges keep records on arrests or ejections.
Of the 128 Football Bowl Subdivision programs that KGW requested data from, 122 responded but not all provided data. Sixty-eight provided arrest numbers and 66 provided ejection numbers.
Most of the misconduct involved alcohol.
(that last sentence made me laugh)
I have a theory on why the SEC is lacking a bit on this list. Being obnoxious and rowdy is basically a requirement to be an SEC fan. You know these people, you’ve seen the videos we’ve posted on here for years. It’s pretty much encouraged, so nobody actually gives a big enough shit to eject these people. You really have to cross the line if you’re going get tossed from an SEC game.
That’s the only explanation I have. And shout out to Georgia and Florida for being the other 2 schools to get in there. That’s why Halloween weekend in Jacksonville is always the biggest party of the year. They know how to get weird.
