NBA Stud CJ McCollum Talks Balling Up Lawyers, Too $hort, If Being Named Most Improved Is An Insult

This week we took the format of the Milk The Clock Podcast from only tickling your eardrums, to tickling your eardrums and eyeballs with the first ever MTC Videocast. A vast improvement that now includes the use of two of your five senses at once, who better to kick it off than 2016 KIA NBA Most Improved Player award-winner CJ McCollum?

The Portland Trail Blazers guard is giving 20 hand-selected high school students an inside look into sports journalism with the second season of his mentorship program, CJ’s Press Pass.
When Joe and I spoke to him this week, the first question I asked was if he had room for two guys from the Midwest in their mid-thirties. Mistaking us for real sports journalists, he invited us to participate.
A few minutes later I proved I was an idiot who knew nothing when CJ audibly broke my ankles (hear them crack at about 8:30) when I insinuated that as an NBA player, he wasn’t using his college degree in his professional field, just like millions of other employed Americans. CJ went to Lehigh and dropped some smoothness right on my face, just like he does to Tony Allen on occasion, his favorite NBA defender to score on (11:20).

We also told CJ about Joe’s latest addiction, Facebook Live Map, and suggested it is the perfect way to pass the time during lonely nights in strange hotel rooms during road trips.
I asked CJ if it was insulting to be named the NBA’s Most Improved Player (14:15) and if he ever goes to the local YMCA in his hometown (17:00) and disrupts lunchtime open gym between 50-something high-powered corporate attorneys looking to get a little run and burn some calories.
We then learned that at the conclusion of our interview, CJ was going to interview Bay Area rap icon Too $hort. He then tempted the Fates by asking us if we had anything to ask him. Unbeknownst to CJ, Too $short practically raised me from 1994-1996 and I asked him the first question that came to mind, which was probably the last question he expected (17:45).
