In case you haven’t heard, my boss Joe is currently weighing the pros and cons of spending $5,000 to learn the art of hitting from Jose Canseco. It sounds like he’s leaning towards pulling the trigger, but if he needed some extra convincing, here it is.
Big Jose was in Wine Country this past weekend for “Jose Canseco Weekend” with the Sonoma Stompers, and he definitely didn’t disappoint, going deep against the San Rafael Pacifics on Saturday:

Per Grantland’s Ben Lindbergh, that pitcher he took to the shed topped out at 90 mph:

However, if you ask Jose, San Rafael was lucky he only blasted one home run:

According to the Sonoma Index-Tribune, attendance for each of Jose’s games reached around 1,000 people, which is apparently pretty good for an independent baseball team. Considering that the team was giving away these special gun-inspired foam fingers, it’s easy to see why people came out in droves:
