Twitter is up in arms this afternoon after Marcus Mariota crushed Jameis Winston in the 40 at the combine. Mariota clocked in at 4.52 seconds, while “fat” Jameis took 4.97 seconds to cover the distance. Take a look at at the difference through this Simulcam:

Should you really be all that surprised? Jameis has never ran like the most fluid guy in the world, and Mariota is a freak athlete. Both of those things are true. Here’s another truth: it doesn’t matter which QB can run faster in a straight line- not one bit. Look at these stats:
Meaningless. Pointless. Stupid. Jake Locker ran a 4.59. Manziel ran a 4.68. Griffin ran a 4.41. Tebow ran a 4.72. All four guys suck. There’s no correlation. None.
If you watch Winston and Mariota play, Jameis looks like an NFL QB, and Mariota doesn’t. Simple as that. It’s cool that we get to see who can run faster in a padless, tight kit, but at the end of the day it just doesn’t matter. Jameis can make more throws and he’s going to be a better quarterback in the NFL. Discussion over.
