No current MLB team has ruled the big league hair game better than the Boston Red Sox. Even though he’s not one of the BoSox Beardos, Jackie Bradley . things to another level prior to the team’s game against the Tigers on Saturday at Fenway (7:10 p.m. ET).
According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, Sox starting pitcher John Lackey recently challenged Bradley, the team’s centerfielder, to wear his hair out. Bradley obliged (above) on Saturday afternoon.
Olney references former Yankees/Indians/etc. outfielder Oscar Gamble in his tweet, and he’s not far off. Bake McBride and Lee Smith also had all-star level ‘Fros. (Underrated: former Orioles closer Don Stanhouse.)
Maybe Bradley’s hair will become 2014’s version of the beard and propel the Sox into a hot streak? Would MLB ask him to send it to Cooperstown for a display at the Baseball Hall of Fame? Seems only right.
The reigning world champs – who are also known to spend their off-days tempting death on roller coasters — are 20-21 and fourth in the American League East.
