Joe Montana’s game-worn Super Bowl jersey from one of the most iconic moments in NFL history has been sold.
The jersey that Montana wore during Super Bowl XXIII when he enginereed “The Drive” sold for a whopping $1.212 million at an auction brokered by Goldin.
Montana’s jersey sale crushed the previous record for NFL jerseys which was $480,000 for a game-worn Tom Brady jersey last year.
“It’s only right that the two greatest quarterbacks of all-time are still trading off records, even in retirement,” said Ken Goldin, via TMZ Sports. “Montana was already in rarefied air with four championship rings and three Super Bowl MVPs — [and] with the record-breaking sale of his Super Bowl XXIII jersey, Montana has surpassed Tom Brady on top of that mountain.”

“The Drive” was a legendary 92-yard drive engineered by Montana when the San Francisco 49ers were trailing the CIncinnati Bengals, 16-13, in the fourth quarter. Montana surgically drove his team down the field before scoring a touchdown with less than three minutes remaining in the game to win his third Super Bowl Championship.
In addition to “The Drive” jersey, Golden also sold Montana’s road jersey from Super Bowl XXIV for $720,000, making it the second-highest NFL jersey sale of all-time.
Even in retirement, Montana is doing GOAT things.
