After months of discussion and speculation, the NFL has announced a Black Friday game is coming in the 2023 season.
The NFL Thanksgiving Day schedule has long been a tradition, but a Black Friday game will be able to take advantage of an untapped market. To make things even better, the league has the perfect partner for the game: Amazon.
It is expected that the Black Friday game will kickoff at 3:00 p.m. ET, with live streaming on Amazon Prime Video, which currently owns the NFL’s Thursday Night Football package.
The NFL and Amazon announced that in 2023, Prime Video will exclusively stream a “Black Friday” game, the Friday after Thanksgiving. The first-ever NFL Black Friday game will take place on November 24, 2023 with an expected kick off of 3pm ET. Teams are TBD.

For the single Black Friday game, Amazon is expected to dish out approximately $100 million, according to Sports Business Journal.
“Thanksgiving is synonymous with football and we’re excited to give our fans another day of NFL action during this holiday weekend,” NFL Media COO Hans Schroeder said in a statement. “Amazon is uniquely positioned to partner with us for this game as Black Friday is one of the most important days of the year for their business.”
Whether the Black Friday games go beyond the 2023 season remains to be seen, but it is a natural fit because it’s a win-win for everyone involved — especially those of us who enjoy spending the Friday after Thanksgiving on the couch with our food hangovers.
