The Kansas City Chiefs have a big decision to make about their team. They need to decide if they should keep Kadarius Toney because he’s really talented, or let him go because he makes too many mistakes. Toney has made fans upset by doing things like getting penalties and causing drama before the Super Bowl.
It’s a tough call.
Toney has given the Chiefs’ management little choice but to consider letting him go. The team’s wide receiver lineup is stronger than ever with new additions like Hollywood Brown and rookie Xavier Worthy. This depth makes Toney’s spot less secure.
Coach Andy Reid had some encouraging words for Toney before training camp, hoping to motivate him. He said, “Kadarius is arguably one of the most talented guys we have on the team. It’s just a matter of being healthy and being able to stay on the field.” Reid emphasized that reliability and accountability are key factors for staying on the roster.
But despite Reid’s hopes, Toney hasn’t impressed in preseason games. Recently, Reid confirmed that Toney is on the roster bubble. Nate Taylor from The New York Times also suggested that Toney might not make the final cut, predicting that players like fullback Carson Steele and wide receiver Mecole Hardman will secure spots instead.
Toney, a former first-round pick, won’t be thrilled about this situation. Losing his spot to a fullback and a less consistent player like Hardman could be frustrating for him. Yet, the Chiefs have room to add players in undervalued roles – Steele can aid in short-yardage situations, while Hardman brings special teams expertise.
Unfortunately, Toney’s tendency for turnovers and his inconsistent presence on the field have been major issues. When he does play, he often frustrates both coaches and fans because they know how good he can be when he’s at his best.
Sadly, it’s been a long time since we’ve seen that version of Toney.
