The Las Vegas Raiders have made a big decision. They’re not going to use Jimmy Garoppolo and Aiden O’Connell as their only quarterbacks next year.
On Monday, the Raiders shook things up.
They signed a new quarterback, Gardner Minshew, from the Colts. The deal is for two years and is worth $25 million. This news comes straight from Tom Pelissero, a reporter for NFL Network. But wait, there’s more to the story. Vic Tafur, who writes about sports, hinted that the Raiders had other plans before choosing Minshew.
Raiders decide to sign Gardner Minshew instead, or Little Ass Boy as Maxx Crosby called him in a game last year. Gritty competitor who gives them competition with Aidan O’Connell in case draft doesn’t work out.
As the market shrivels up for Justin Fields, Raiders kicking the tires on a possible reunion with offensive coordinator Luke Getsy.

Vic Tafur tweeted something interesting on Monday. He mentioned that the Raiders were considering getting back together with their old offensive coordinator, Luke Getsy. This was during the first day of the NFL’s free agency tampering period.
Later on, Tafur spilled the beans. It was going to be Minshew, not Justin Fields, who would join the Raiders. The Raiders did their homework and decided Minshew was a better deal than trading for Fields. It seems like other teams felt the same about the Bears’ trade demands for Fields. Mac Jones was traded to the Jaguars for just a sixth-round pick, which might mean Fields isn’t as valuable as Chicago thought.
Minshew may not be as promising as Fields, but he’s got experience. He’s played as a starter before and seems like a good fit for the Raiders’ team spirit. Antonio Pierce, the team’s coach, is trying to build a strong, competitive atmosphere. Minshew is also a safe choice for now, while getting Fields would cost the team some valuable draft picks.
While Minshew and O’Connell will compete for the quarterback spot, Minshew’s got his eyes on the prize. He did pretty well last season with the Colts, winning 7 out of 13 games. He also threw 15 touchdowns and had a quarterback rating of 84.6.
The Raiders still need to figure out what to do with Garoppolo. His future with the team doesn’t look too good. He might be let go to free up some money for the team.
