A traveler from Mexico who was preparing to fly back to her home city of Vancouver, Canada, is not happy with Canadian airline carrier WestJet after being booted from a recent flight.
The traveler, author Joanna Chiu, took to social media to air her grievances with the airline.
But when you hear the complaints, it is hard not to laugh. Chiu said she was booted from the flight because of excessive bathroom use before takeoff.
Just got kicked off a @WestJet flight from Mexico because I had an upset stomach and was going to the washroom too much before takeoff. No promise of a hotel or rebooked flight. I had meds and was on the mend. Some customer service.
If you’re sick before a flight, hold it in…

I’m not quite sure why Chiu is upset. If you are sick, you should not be boarding a plane and putting everyone else at risk of getting the stomach bug.
But for Chiu, the lack of compensation she received after being booted really was the gut punch.
“In my rush to get off plane alone, I left my money with travel companions and @WestJet supervisor refused to pay for my taxi to a hotel 20 min away,” she wrote. “He called a guard over to intimidate me but when I burst into tears the guard assessed rightly that Westjet dude was the asshole.”
Chiu returned to the airport the following day and eventually made it back home.
At the end of her lengthy Twitter rant, Chiu left her followers with this brilliant piece of advice: “If you go to the washroom before a flight, and the flight attendant asks if you are sick, say you just have a small bladder.”
Counterpoint: if you are sick, reschedule your flight.
