The NFL Playoffs are nearing their end, with the AFC and NFC Championships set to take place this weekend.

In the AFC, the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs will travel to M&T Bank Stadium to take on presumptive NFL MVP Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.

The NFC, meanwhile, will feature the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers hosting the Detroit Lions. Detroit is 0-11 in their last 11 road playoff games. Their most recent win was on December 22, 1957… in San Francisco.

The folks at BetOnline.ag analyzed geo-tagged keyword association data, tracking key phrases, hashtags, and team names to determine who each state is rooting for to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.

For example, tweets with #OnePride (Lions), #GoNiners (49ers), #ChiefsKingdom (Chiefs), and #RavensFlock (Ravens) were used in the survey. It ran all of those tweets through a geo-tracking program that showed which state each post came from. The team most associated with those keywords and phrases in each state then “won” that respective state.

More than 220,000 tweets were tracked for the study.

The Detroit Lions had a major edge when it was all said and done. The Lions have never won a Super Bowl.
