Travis Kelce came to the defense of Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and ripped the “dumb” media in the process on the latest episode of his New Heights podcast with brother Jason Kelce.

The brothers were discussing Tomlin’s sustained success in the Steel City after he clinched his 17th consecutive non-losing season as the Steelers head coach.

Despite his consistency in leading the team to wins, the media was calling for Pittsburgh to move on from Tomlin after the season for a fresh start and even suggested using him as a trade piece. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end couldn’t disagree more.

“The media is so dumb. Why do we even do the media? Just a bunch of jackasses, just out here f*cking talking nonsense,” Travis Kelce said. “[Tomlin is] one of the best coaches the NFL has ever even seen.”

It’s hard to disagree.

Teams around the league would do anything to consistently be in contention for the playoffs. The stability and consistency in a franchise allow you more opportunities to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

And even with a slow start to the season and poor quarterback play, Tomlin has the Steelers once again in the mix for the postseason.

Pittsburgh can reach the playoffs with a win over the division rival Baltimore Ravens in the regular season finale, along with a loss from the Bills (at Dolphins) or Jaguars (at Titans) on Sunday. If the Steelers lose, they will still finish with a winning record and could sneak into the postseason with a Jacksonville loss, Denver win, and Indianapolis-Houston not ending in a tie.

A full look at the Steelers playoff scenarios can be seen below:

  • Steelers win and Buffalo loss or
  • Steelers win and Jacksonville loss/tie or
  • Steelers win and Indianapolis-Houston ends in a tie or
  • Steelers tie and Indianapolis and Houston do not end in a tie and Jacksonville loss or

The Steelers and Ravens are set to kickoff at M&T Bank Stadium on Saturday, January 6 at 4:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN and ABC, while streaming live on ESPN+.
