The Kansas City Chiefs have been struggling over the past few weeks, dropping three of their past four games including a Christmas Day showdown with the division rival Las Vegas Raiders.

With the struggles, frustration is building and it was on full display when star tight end Travis Kelce had a helmet-throwing sideline tantrum during the loss.

During the latest episode of his New Heights podcast with brother Jason Kelce, Travis discussed the “frustrating” stretch for Kansas City and the helmet toss that earned him a stern talk from head coach Andy Reid.

“(Andy Reid is) looking out for me, and I love him for it. I didn’t go back out there and play good,” Kelce said.

“He wanted to see the fire in me and I reacted in a bad way. He wanted to just get the best out of me, and right now I’m just not playing my best football and I gotta f*cking lock the f*ck in, be more accountable for him, be more accountable for my teammates. I gotta keep my f*cking cool because as a leader on this team that’s not how you switch the momentum.”

Kelce returned to the game but finished with only 44 yards on five catches.

On the podcast, Kelce noted that everyone on the team needs to get it together if they want to fix their issues in time for the postseason. After all, Kansas City has been one of the more disappointing offensive units in the league this season after entering with high expectations as the defending Super Bowl champions.

“It’s a frustrating f–ing experience right now,” Kelce said. “Every single day we’re going in here fixing it, I promise you guys, it’s not just one guy, it’s not just me playing like dog sh*t, it’s not just not being able to get the run game going, it’s not just us not being on the same page passing wise, everybody’s in this f*cking thing together.

“Everybody’s just gotta do their f–king job. Every single play, it’s someone not doing their job. It’s me, one by one it’s everybody on the team. We show signs of sparks of what kind of offense we can be. … It hasn’t been a well-oiled machine like we’ve been in the past. We just got to get everybody on the same f*cking page. … We got to take a little bit more ownership in what we’re doing. I’m not saying that I’m out of this, I’m the main part of this. We got to try to find a way to clean this sh*t up, man.”

The Chiefs finish off the 2023-24 regular season with a home game against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17 and a trip to Los Angeles to face the Chargers in the season finale.

Kansas City needs just one win to clinch the AFC West and punch their ticket to the postseason.
